NewsLive Earth leg axedPart of the fothcoming Live Earth concerts have been cancelled due to lack of funds and timing. The Turkish leg of the world event, which aims to highlight climate change, has been shelved and will be now be replaced by giant TV screens projecting concerts from the other eight cities. A spokesman for Purple Concerts said: "There was no possibility to hold a live performance due to lack of time." Organisers of the Turkish leg had initially hoped to stage a scaled down version of the Istanbul gig even though they admitted it would be difficult. But lack of sponsorship up against a tight schedule forced organisers to pull the plug altogether, reports BBC News. Tokyo, Hamburg, New York, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg, Sydney and London are among the cities set to stage concerts for the event. Foo Fighters, Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Bloc Party, Kasabian and Beastie Boys are among the acts set to appear at the London leg. The Rakes, Pigeon Detectives perform debut In The City of New York The Rakes and The Pigeon Detectives performed two rousing sold-out sets at New York's Knitting Factory last night (June 13). The gig, part of the debut In The City of New York music conference was originally scheduled to take place at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square with the Happy Mondays as headliners. However, due to visa issues, the Happy Mondays were forced to cancel the appearance, forcing its move to the smaller downtown venue. Opening with 'You Know I Love You', The Pigeon Detectives tore through their very first New York show with tracks including 'I Found Out', 'Stop Or Go' and 'Take Her Back'. Taking to the stage at around 12.45am, The Rakes managed to hold on to the late-night crowd and buoy them up with such tracks as 'Trouble', 'We Are All Animals' and 'When Tom Cruz Cries'. In The City of New York continues tonight with Biffy Clyro, Enter Shikari and Blood Red Shoes playing Highline Ballroom. |
